About Laura Brose
It has been whispered that I am a witch. I am not now, nor have I
ever been a witch, and I have often said that as a Christian, I have not practiced Wicca, Santeria, or any unauthorized tampering with the spiritual world in any way, shape, or form;
though some people seem to think that because I know a lot about the occult and/or look unconventional-some say weird-I therefore must be
a witch or something similar. I did make a successful attempt at dowsing; and whether dowsing qualifies as any form of sorcery or occult practice is a matter of opinion and dispute.
I am not a vampire (though I was once attacked by one), and I am probably not a ghost (though I've nearly
ended up as one on more than one occasion).
Though I am well-known for my short books about Staten Island's ghost stories and paranormal-related legends, I have never seen a ghost, though I'd like
to. I think it would result in a very good book. If Anne Rice can make millions of dollars with the fictional Interview With a Vampire,
I would consider it a literary coup to someday write a factual Interview With A Ghost. I have seen some other strange things, not
all of them what you'd call corporeal. I might or might not have the Second Sight (it's common among the females on my father's side of the family, though it seems to work or not work as it pleases- I sure didn't predict the attack on America or the fall of Enron and WorldComm). As
weirdoes go, I would be in eBay's "mildly weird" category. And no, I am not the AntiChrist. But I am a malcontent who can spell.
I always seem to have several creative projects in progress, and as you can well imagine, my place is a mess. Click on Other stuff for some previews of things yet to come, or About the books for background information on the Haunted Island books.
I make public appearances as a guest lecturer on my Haunted Island series of ghost story books. I have also been dabbling in digital photography, and I am the grammar police and computer troubleshooter for Take 5 magazine. I am also active in the Peace Movement, as a member of Staten Island's chapter of Peace Action, an anti-war and anti-nuclear organization. Because things people do to each other in war are usually a lot scarier than anything from the supernatural world. I handle media relations and do public appearances for this organization. I attended the major anti-war demonstration in Washington, DC on October 26th, 2002.
